DIELECTRIC UNION

A dielectric union is a  fitting used to connect pipes made of dissimilar metals, like copper and galvanized steel, to prevent galvanic corrosion. This corrosion occurs when two different metals are in contact with each other and a conductive fluid (like water) acts as an electrolyte, causing the metals to corrode. Dielectric unions prevent this by using a non-conductive material, often a rubber gasket, to separate the metals.
